Artist's  Statement

About my art:

My garden and sculpting art is rooted in my deep admiration for nature, which has been given to me at birth.

To me, all occurrances of nature - plants, animals, microorganisms, stone, earth, landscape, space, and the human soul - are relics of a paradise that is being lost. However we may not let drop these remnants apathetically. In an apparently never ending effort, we have to attempt to find new balances which may preserve nature and her magic on one hand, and which may not hinder our human striving and ambition on the other hand.

Nature is a wonder - perhaps the only wonder that ever occurred - and as an artist, I see myself as a mediator for the concerns of this wonder. My thriving is not only to find the beauty in the obviously pleasing, but above all to expose beauty and dignity where it is less apparent to us.

A special aspect of my work is its relation to "time". I do not claim that my work is timeless, rather I strive to let traces of the passing of time appear in my work. Although I can observe this aspect of my work, I never systematically researched it. I suppose that I want to express the amazing longevity of nature as compared to our human existence.

Meine Garten- und Bildhauer-Kunst wurzelt in meiner tiefen, mir angeborenen Verehrung der Natur.

Alle Erscheinungen der Natur - Pflanzen, Tiere, Mikroorganismen, Gestein, Erde, Landschaft, das Weltall und die menschliche Seele - sind für mich Relikte eines im Verlorengehen begriffenen Paradieses. Jedoch dürfen wir nicht teilnahmslos die Überreste fallen lassen, sondern müssen versuchen - in wohl niemals endender Anstrengung - neue Gleichgewichte zu finden welche einerseits die Natur und Ihren Zauber bewahren und andererseits unser menschliches Streben und Aufsteigen nicht behindern.

Als Künstler fuehle ich mich als Botschafter der Anliegen der Natur - welche ein (und vielleicht das einzige) Wunder ist. Dabei geht es nicht darum, das Schöne allein im offensichtlich Gefallenden aufzuzeichnen, sondern vor allem auch Schönheit und Würde im weniger Offensichtlichen zu finden.

Ein besonderer Aspekt meiner Arbeit steht in Bezug zum Begriff "Zeit". Ich beanspruche nicht, daß meine Werke "zeitlos" seien, aber gewöhnlich strebe ich danach, Spuren der Zeit in meinen Arbeiten sichtbar werden zu lassen. Diesen Aspekt meiner Arbeit kann ich zwar beobachten, habe ihn aber nie systematisch hinterfragt. Ich vermute, daß ich damit die Langlebigkeit der Natur im Vergleich zu unserer menschlichen Existenz zum Ausdruck bringen will.
