With my sculptures, I express my admiration for nature in all its forms: the universe, our planet, life in all its variations, our human existence. There is magic found in every living thing, and the creation of nature is a mystery. We will probably never know to the last point how our existence started, and how and why out of a Big Bang unfolded such an incomprehensible richness of space, time, forms, and above all: life! It is a question to which we can find an answer only in spirituality. |

News Nov. 4th, 2011: The sculpture 'Cidaris' was awarded the 2nd prize at the '11th Annual Joan Dunfey Memorial Exhibition' (Nov. 2 to Nov. 25 at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH). Thomas also has 'Echinocyamus' in this show, another sculpture of an Echinoderm. Nov. 22nd, 2011: Thomas installed his sculpture 'Atlantic Sparkler' at the newly designed Hampton Beach. This work was commissioned by the State of New Hampshire. It is sculpted from a granite boulder and weighs approximately 1500 lbs. The round scales are polished and sparkle in the sun - hence the species name (although this is the only specimen ever observed) Link to images at the State Park website: http://www.nhstateparks.org/whats-happening/improving-state-parks/hampton-beach-redevelopment.aspx working on 'Cidaris' |

Nature is a wonder - perhaps the only wonder that ever occurred - and as an artist, I see myself as a mediator for the concerns of this wonder. My thriving is not only to find the beauty in the obviously pleasing, but above all to expose beauty and dignity where it is less apparent to us. |

To me, all occurrances of nature - plants, animals, microorganisms, stone, earth, landscape, space, and the human soul - are relics of a paradise that is threatened to get lost. However we may not let drop these remnants apathetically. In an apparently never ending effort, we have to attempt to find new balances which may preserve nature and her magic on one hand, and which may not hinder our human striving and ambition on the other hand. |

I often add scars and cracks to my works - traces of the passing of time that express the amazing resilience and longevity of nature as compared to our human existence. |
