Definition with edgings |
Granite cobblestone edging is a no-maintenance solution to separate lawn from beds. It is installed flush with the lawn surface to facilitate mowing. Gray granite contrasts beautifully with brick. |
Another example of the use of "jumbo" cobblestone for an edging. It is relatively easy to install and flexible in its application.

"Jumbo" cobblestone is well suited for raised edgings. In this case it is installed 'on the edge' and retains a slightly elevated bed.
Here a fine line of 'Standard' Cobblestone edges a bluestone walkway. It is slightly raised to improve the definition of the edging and to avoid erosion of soil from the beds into the walkway. |

Curbstone edging, here used on the sides of the brick walkway, has a more formal appearance. In this case it connects well to the low granite walls. Their coping stones have similar dimensions as curbstone. |

Even rock boulders can form appealing edgings. In this case the boulders replace a more costly stone wall. |
This edging of medium-sized rock boulders retains a slight slope and helps the transition from the asphalt driveway to the garden beds. 'Crimson Pygmy' Barberry has been planted along the some line and will grow into a small clipped hedge, maintaining a certain formality in the front of the house. |
