Entrance Areas and Walkways Granite in semi-formal style and use of granite cobblestone |
This page shows examples of our design work with granite as the main building material. It is hard to find specialists for the cobblestone work, especially for the segmental arc patterns shown on this page. For more information on this subject look at pages "Cobblestone Installation" (example of the procedure) and "Classic Cobblestone Pavement" (for segmental arcs).

When a new fence was due, this town house received a clean looking granite edging and granite posts. The edging helps definition and keeps road salt and garbage out of the garden. Design and granite work by Green Art. Wooden fence installed by Upright Fence. |
This entrance walkway is worked in small 4"x4" cobblestone. The straight and parallel layout, the step and two posts we used for their simplicity and as formal elements. A clipped boxwood hedge continues the line of the step and posts to the left and right and helps to organize the otherwise very informally planted front yard.

The main entrance of this residence has a generous wooden deck in the shape of a half hexagon. The cobblestone walkway, that starts at the parking, leads to all three sides of the deck. The cobblestones are 4" grey cubes and 4" black cubes for the edges. The pattern is called "Berliner Passee". Plantings were added later and included Fothergilla gardenii, Hydrangea 'Nikko Blue', Azaleas, dwarf Rhododendrons, Cimicifuga, Hostas, Ferns and woodland grasses. |
This narrow city yard was paved with cobblestone in the segmental arcs pattern. Granite curbstone edges the outlines and keeps the narrow planting areas defined and clean. A Honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos inermis "Skyline") was planted into a circular space in the center as a shade tree. This tree will develop a tall canopy with a rather airy habit.
